Kasey L. Martin
Kasey L. Martin is a filmmaker and artist whose work explores connection, belonging, and transformation through intimate character-driven stories. Moving between documentary and narrative forms, she is drawn to moments when people are forced to reimagine themselves, their relationships, and their place in the world. Her films often center Black, queer, and women's experiences as entry points into larger questions of love, grief, identity, and what it means to become oneself. After graduating from Kingston University London with an MA in filmmaking, Kasey first started in the industry as an apprentice editor on the STARZ TV show Powerbook II: Ghost (Season II). She has since edited numerous short films, including Bleached, which won the NAACP Shorts Competition in 2025. Her experience as an editor has deeply influenced her approach to directing, with a unique focus on rhythm and visual storytelling. A 2025 Oglethorpe Award for Excellence in Georgia Cinema nominee, Kasey also earned a Jury Special Mention at the Atlanta Film Festival for her short film Swimming Holes. Her work has screened with platforms like Brown Girls Doc Mafia, in collaboration with Video Consortium, and was selected for NewFest Pride's SHORTS: Black Queer Pride Mixtape (with Vimeo).
Kasey is currently in post-production on her debut feature film, Moon Baby, a documentary about a Black queer solo mother by choice navigating early motherhood in rural Hawaii.
